The traditional wedding ring of the Irish since the 17th Century, the Claddagh ring is worn today by people all over the world as a universal symbol of love, loyalty, friendship and of their Irish heritage. When worn on the right hand, with crown and heart facing out, the ring tells that the wearer's heart is yet to be won. When under love's spell it is worn with the heart and crown facing inwards. When worn on the left hand, with the crown and heart facing inwards, this signifies that your love has been requited. This sterling silver Claddagh ring consists of two hands holding between them, or presenting, a heart. The phrase or posy, that usually accompanies the ring is: "Let love and friendship reign". This Claddah ring is delicate and measures .25 inch wide at the center and 1/8 inch wide at the band. We chose this particular ring for its delicate size.
